THE PERFORMANCE SERIES:SPEED & HURDLES CLINIC
Your next breakthrough starts with better mechanics.
A clinic built for progress
BUILD THE SKILLS THAT SHOW UP WHEN IT COUNTS.
Train with Hurdle Science founder Marlon Odom and Brooklyn Speed & Power co-founder Richard James. This two-session clinic helps middle school, high school, and collegiate athletes improve sprint and hurdle mechanics, rhythm, movement efficiency, and confidence for practice and competition.

Session breakdown & programming
OFFICIAL CLINIC AGENDA.
Two days of structured sprint acceleration, hurdle rhythm, block mechanics, and college recruiting guidance designed for tangible on-track progress.
Acceleration, Blocks & Short Hurdles
Sprint Acceleration & College Recruiting
Primary Focus: Explosive starts, push angles, and understanding the college recruiting process.
- Dynamic Warm-Up & Activation: Full-body preparation for high-speed output.
- Hip Mobility: Drills to open hip range of motion for longer, more powerful strides.
- Sprint Mechanics Drills: Technical cues for foot strike, posture, and arm drive.
- Acceleration Training: Contrast resisted vs. unresisted sprint runs for explosive power.
- Starting Block Setup: Customizing block position to fit body geometry and build launch angles.
- Closing Recruiting Talk: College readiness, NCAA recruiting rule updates, eligibility standards, and open Q&A.
Short Hurdles, Rhythm & Barrier Clearance
Primary Focus: Short hurdles, take-off distance, lead leg attack, and the approach to hurdle one.
- Dynamic Warm-Up & Sprint Drills: Specific neuromuscular activation for hurdlers.
- Hurdle Mobility: Range-of-motion drills over barriers to eliminate wasted vertical motion.
- Rhythm & Wicket Runs: Wicket spacing drills to teach quick ground contact and race rhythm.
- Introductory Hurdle Drills: Lead leg attack, fast trail leg action, and staying low over the barrier.
- Block Setup to First Hurdle: Counting steps, building acceleration, and hitting hurdle 1 at speed.
- College Prep Talk: Practical recruiting standards and collegiate profiles for hurdlers.
Top Speed, Long Hurdles & Curves
Top Speed, Stride Structure & Phase Work
Primary Focus: Upright sprint mechanics, maintaining maximum velocity, and race phase execution.
- Dynamic Warm-Up & Activation: Targeted prep for maximum velocity sprinting.
- Hip Mobility & Flexibility: Exercises to improve hip extension and recovery mechanics.
- Sprint Mechanics Drills: High-speed coordination and ground contact cues.
- Stride Structure Work: Optimizing stride length and frequency without over-striding.
- Phase Work (30m · 30m · 30m): Segmenting the race into drive, transition, and max velocity.
- Closing Athlete & Coach Wrap-Up: Individual feedback, takeaway cues, and practice guidelines.
Long Hurdles, Curve Running & Race Strategy
Primary Focus: Curve mechanics, stride patterns, and hurdle clearances under fatigue.
- Dynamic Warm-Up & Sprint Drills: Speed endurance preparation.
- Advanced Hurdle Mobility: Hip flexibility and trail leg drills for endurance.
- Advanced Hurdle Progressions: Fluid barrier clearance with alternating lead legs.
- Starts Over First 3 Hurdles: Full-speed block starts through the first 3 barriers with live coaching.
- Curve Breakdown & Practice: How to attack the curve, lean into turns, and hold momentum on the bend.
- Closing Technical Wrap-Up: Final coach review, personal takeaways, and group Q&A.
