Brooklyn Speed and Power · Our Philosophy

Run Right.
Run Fast. Run Long.

A solid foundation in running is the cornerstone of every great athlete. We build that foundation — then build everything on top of it.
Movement is life. As we move with more power, we improve our quality of life.
The Foundation

Why Running Is the Starting Point

Every sport at every level demands one thing above all else: the ability to move efficiently and powerfully. Running is the universal language of athleticism — and mastering it unlocks performance across every sport.

A strong running foundation builds cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and the efficient aerobic systems that fuel performance in high-intensity activities. It develops explosive lower-body power in the quads, hamstrings, and calves — translating directly to speed, agility, and field performance.

Beyond the physical, running builds mental fortitude — the discipline and resilience to push through barriers that separate good athletes from great ones.

What Running Builds
Cardiovascular Endurance
Efficient oxygen delivery to muscles under sustained high-intensity effort
Lower Body Strength
Explosive power in quads, hamstrings, calves, and glutes
Speed & Agility
Faster acceleration, top-end velocity, and change of direction
Mental Resilience
Determination and focus that transfer to every competitive environment
Injury Prevention
Body composition and biomechanical efficiency that protect against breakdown
How We Train

Three Principles That Drive Everything

Every drill, every rep, and every session at Brooklyn Speed and Power is built on these non-negotiables.

01
Evidence-Based Methodology
Coach James draws on a Master's in Exercise Physiology and over 20 years of Division I and Olympic-level coaching to design every program. No guesswork. No trends. Just science-backed training that produces measurable results.
02
Athlete-Centered Development
Training is tailored to the individual athlete's sport, age, and development stage. We don't run cookie-cutter workouts. We build programs around the athlete — their body, their goals, and their competitive season.
03
Nurturing But Demanding
High standards in a supportive environment. Athletes are held accountable, pushed past their perceived limits, and developed inside a culture that values growth, respect, and long-term excellence over short-term results.

Our Mantra, Broken Down

Three words. Three commitments. One standard we hold every athlete to, every session.

🎯
Run Right
Mechanics First
Proper running form is non-negotiable. We coach posture, foot strike, arm drive, and stride mechanics before we ever chase times. Running right prevents injury and creates the mechanical efficiency that speed is built on.
Run Fast
Speed Is a Skill
Speed is not a gift — it's trained. Once the foundation is right, we systematically develop acceleration, top-end velocity, and sport-specific quickness through progressive overload and sprint development protocols.
🏆
Run Long
Built to Last
Longevity in sport is the ultimate goal. We build athletes who stay healthy, keep improving, and carry their physical foundation beyond their youth years — into high school, college, and life.
The Payoff

What Athletes Take Away

A strong running foundation isn't just about track. It's a springboard for every sport and every stage of athletic development.

🏀
Multi-Sport Transfer
Speed, agility, and explosive power transfer directly to basketball, football, soccer, lacrosse, and every sport where athleticism is a differentiator.
🛡️
Injury Resilience
Proper mechanics and balanced strength development reduce the injury risk that sidelines athletes during the most important years of their development.
🧠
Mental Toughness
The discipline of training right builds a competitive mindset. Athletes who train with Coach James leave with determination and resilience that shows up in every athletic environment.
📈
Measurable Progress
We track improvement. Athletes see real gains in sprint times, vertical, agility scores, and sport-specific performance metrics over the course of their training.
🎓
Recruitment Readiness
Athletes who train consistently build the physical profile and competitive character that college coaches look for when evaluating high school recruits.
💪
Lifelong Athleticism
Beyond competition, we build healthy movers. The body literacy and movement quality our athletes develop serves them for decades — in sport and in life.
"I don't just train athletes to run faster. I train them to move better, compete longer, and carry their foundation far beyond the field."
— Coach Richard James, 2004 Olympian & Co-Founder, Brooklyn Speed and Power
